TOOLBOX session 1 USP session

We were required to make a USP(unique selling proposition) through teamwork which was a new concept including product, target customer, and the way to buy it.
This was my first time learning business courses, so I felt excited and worried. I didn’t know if I could handle it. After introducing a series of examples to us, the teacher asked us to work together in groups to make a USP. In the beginning, our group was in a mess, because we did not have a unified idea and all expressed our opinions, so it was very difficult to integrate. Fortunately, we finally picked out an idea that could be further developed which was a combination of sustainable development and new technology. This was Avery’s idea, so she was responsible for the main development, while the rest of us made additional additions. Aurora and I were mainly responsible for illustration, and it was really fun to draw out our ideas.
Our USP is called’ decorated by yourself’. Our target customer is someone who needs frequent changes of fashion clothes because these clothes are easy to go out of trend. However, it is a waste to throw them away. As a result, people can buy our clothes. Firstly, our clothes are all made of recyclable materials. What’s more, we will provide based garments which means customers are able to choose colors, styles, technologies, and decorations on their own. And once they make the decision, our staff will help them to complete their own garments by using different machines. Besides, our company will set up recycling bins throughout the whole city so that customers can put their used clothes in the bins and staffs will collect clothes and make new garments again.
Through this class, I felt my deep deficiency in business direction. Moreover, this class also changed my way of thinking. I understood that as a designer, how to generate selling points of goods is very important. Design alone is far from enough, the customer is the most important person in the whole process. I should think more about how to make products eye-catching when doing designs and read more cases of brands to learn and understand how they succeed. Ultimately, they will be the basis for the development of a furthering USP.
