Today is our first lesson with Giles, and I’m very excited about it. I was told to bring the design I made before, so I brought the collage I made before, but I was not very clear about the overall idea, and I was a little confused. So at the very beginning, I just drew down the outline of the collage, which made the dress very exaggerated. Just as I was finishing my draft, Giles came over to look at my homework and ask me some questions. But because I didn’t have a clear idea, I couldn’t answer his question well, which made my design look a little confused and thin. Good thing Giles helped me with my homework. He told me that our homework was to make a product, so the outline need not be so exaggerated and should be more commercial. Along with coaching, Giles helped me edit my illustration. He also looked at the photos I took at the V&A and suggested I use one of them as inspiration for a print. Thanks to Giles’ guidance, I found a thread through the chaos to work on my product. I think this class made me see my shortcomings in thinking. If there is another chance, I will first make a Mind map to determine the main idea and then carry out details. Instead of doing it like this in a state of no thought, otherwise, it will just get messier and messier. In addition to that, I tried to draw another illustration to make up for the illustration. I think it is necessary to try many times, and art is to progress through trying. You have to try a lot to find the best solution for you.
